Laughing in amusement of the creations fixed on the wall canvas, Beth’s shadow hands were met with an intertwined caress of another set of much larger hands at times becoming one on the wall. Beth turned to Devin, offering a sensual smile as she used her hands to reply in romantic approval. In a shocked discovery, Beth realized Devin had turned his attention to his phone, and both of his hands were on it. Turning her attention back toward the wall, she realized that the hands were still entwined. They quickly disappeared from her view. She pulled back her hands. In disbelief of what she had seen, she quickly hopped to her feet in one motion, slightly paralyzed for a moment. I remember the night of 20 years ago today.

I had been awoken by the distinct banging of hammers coming from the old white shed that set in the corner behind our house. I was 10 years old at the time and investigative to that which I did not know. So the curiosity of the racket would definitely call for closer investigation. Shrouded in the tattered, dark blue blanket that had magic powers to fend off the boogie man and monsters that hid in the shadows in the corners of my room, I had impressively made it to the backyard without being spotted. Tip toeing to the glowing light that beamed through the gaps of the old door and its warped frame and the scarcely attached gate that was missing several wooden planks of its exterior. It did not offer up much cover or privacy from the outside.

On a Friday night in September that would come to be noted as one of the worst storms in Kent County’s 76 year history, the rainfall had reached its full potential. Flooding and fast to fill the streets of the antique charmed town and its features. Resting in the abyss of the storms darkness and left powerless to the weather’s merciless conditions, an abrupt halt was put to Mr. and Mrs. Frank’s movie night.  They had now been forced to return home much earlier than had been expected.

Upon their return home, they were met by a handful of curious on looking neighbors that the earlier blood curdling screams had brought to the home’s direction. Now soaked from the pouring rain and taking refuge from the small tide brushing
